Expanding the UN Security Council will ensure a more effective United Nations and Peace in the world Yes or No
AYC is launching a new initiative to increase participation of women in politics. At the outgoing Parliament Sri Lanka, women represented only 5.11%.
As women leadership need to be groomed from local elections. AYC-Sri Lanka will focus on holding national and regional workshops in Nov 2024 in Sri Lanka with political parties and NGOs underlining the importance of nominating women as candidates for the Pradeshi sabha elections due in due in Dec 2024. This would be followed by workshops by NGOs at the district level to convince and promote women as candidates and for the political parties to accommodate them.
India, with ISS, Institute of social sciences, several events were organised on women participation in the panchayat elections.
Similar efforts would be made in Bangladesh and Nepal.
In all the 4 focus countries , effort would be made on voters' education
AYC promoted SASA-Net, south asia small arms network which is a coalition of NGOs and small arms activists and prepared Govt delegation and CSOs in preparing for UN conferences on SALW, small arms and light weapons. Supported establishment of national commission in srilanka. Together with others reviewed fore arms act in 6 countries in relation to UN program of action.
